I simply love playing with this deck, it is just so much fun. I wish that I had played it in the States rather than a somewhat lame Blaziken-Rampardos deck that I used. Problem was that I did not have any Claydols, and this Tyranitar deck needs Claydols to keep everything humming in the background as the Big Lizard whumps on it’s opponents.
There are a lot of Tyranitar decks out there right now, a lot! Most of them are pretty much exact copies of the others, which is understandable, if it works, why mess with it?
My take on the T-Tar deck is not that much different than the others, a few Supporters here and there, I put in a Darkrai Lv. X for extra damage, etc…
The one thing that my deck has that most other T-Tar decks do not have is Poké Blower +. Uh-huh, Poké Blower + are in my T-Tar deck and for good reason. In Regionals, the games I lost were because I was unable to take out a nasty on the bench. But what about Spinning Tail and the massive 30 damage it does to all benched Pokémon? That simply is not enough damage and left me weak to a OHKO attack.
Case and point, Gallade, my last match the guy had a Gallade on his bench, he was just waiting for my T-Tar to go active and then he would bring up the Gallade, do a Psychic Cut and OHKO my Big Lizard! Same thing for Machamp, they would just keep one on the bench and when the time came, WHAM, bring him in and take me out.
The thing with this deck is there is not enough energy to get more than 2 T-Tars powered up easily. A smart player will stop using Poké-Powers ASAP as soon as the first T-Tar goes down. Actually several of the decks that I played used little to no Poké-Powers at all, so much for my Darkness Drive Poké-Body. I do have 1 Night Maintanence in the deck currently, thinking of adding another.
Getting back to the point, Poké Blower +, while I was losing I kept thinking, if only I could have grabbed my opponents Pokémon when I wanted to and then did a Grind for the OHKO. I had thought about using Poké Blower + before, but a few people in the League I go to used them and they seemed a waste. I was wrong. The Poké Blower + are not early game cards to use, they are late game cards. By the late stages of the game I have already blown through 40+ cards so it is not a reach to get all 4 Poké Blower + in my hand.
Once that happens, bring in the Pokémon that will cause you the most trouble and Grind away for the easy OHKO.
Actually, if you have been able to do a Spinning Tail attack and you have Darkrai Lv.X out you may be able to do a Spinning Tail attack for the KO since Spinning Tail will do 80 damage a pop at that point. This will allow yourself to spread even more damage on the bench.
